...and I have many, many flashlights. I am outdoors a lot hunting and camping, and I am always looking for the best and brightest flashlight. The early LED flashlights were a real disappointment. For pure brightness, I stayed with zenon bulbs for a long time and only used LED flashlights and headlamps for upclose work.

I tried the Surefire and Streamlight LED flashlights, and they worked fine, but they were fairly expensive and burned through 123 lithium batteries within an hour or so. To make matters worse, the 123s batts were also expensive compared with alkalines and were harder to find.

I was a little skeptical when I read about the T7. I did not think they could generate the claimed lumens without lithium batteries, but I was proven wrong. The T7 is brighter than a D-cell Maglite and is probably a quarter of the size and weight. Just 4 AAA batts produce an insane amount of light. I really need to do a runtime test for the batteries, but I have not gotten around to it. What I do know is I have probably used this flashlight on the high setting for at least 5 hours with no discernable drop in light intensity.

The T7 has a rear end push-button on/off switch. You lightly push it for temporary high power, push it until it clicks for low power, and click it again for permanent high power. A third click turns it off.

The speed focus works perfectly with the head sliding forward or back with a simple push or pull of the thumb. I have never seen a more even beam. There are no hotspots, circles or bullseye effects. The beam is nice and even throughout the focus range.

On spot beam, I can easily light up a house down the street at 100-150 yards. On the flood setting, I can light up an entire 8' X10' wall from about 15 feet.

The T7 is not waterproof, but I have used it in the rain several times without any problems.

My only complaints are I wish that the rear end was flat so I could stand it up and that the head was beveled so it would not roll. Other than those minor critiques, this is a flashlight that will fit in your pocket but still kick butt! I bought a dozen of them last year for Christmas presents, and everyone was amazed.

The switch stopped working in my Mini Maglite AA. I bought a replacement switch over the Internet and fixed it, and then I found out that Mag Instruments would have sent me a new one free under the lifetime warranty. Too bad.

The problem was that the light turned on erratically if at all, and didn't focus properly.

If you open the top, you'll see that the bulb is stuck into a washer-like receptacle which they call the Upper Insulator Receptacle. It's printed "Do Not Remove."

If you remove it, by prying it up with your thumbnails or a pocket knife, you'll see the switch assembly underneath, with a triangular-shaped sheet metal slide contact. Remember how the slide contact goes, because it's likely to fall out. If you remove the batteries, you can take out the lower insulator too. That slide contact is what failed on me. Instead of being flat, the radial arm was bent. I think that if I had flattened it out with needle-nosed pliers, that would have fixed it, at least for a while.

Anyway, the "Switch Repair Kit" comes with the most idiot-proof detailed illustrated step-by-step instructions that I've ever seen for any piece of equipment. They even give you a plastic "tool" to insert and remove the switch, if you're the kind of person who has trouble tapping a flashlight onto a table without losing parts, or you don't have a pencil lying around the house.

Then out came LED flashlights by other brands. I bought many of them, not having realized yet that Maglite had this flashlight out. All the other brands sadly failed within a month. I tend to be butterfingers at times with my flashlights, and I use them enough that drops are inevitable. All the other brands only took one or two drops from the height of my hands being at my sides and quit working completely. Quite a dissapointment.

However, every Maglite I have owned has, as the saying goes, taken a lickin' and kept on tickin'. I bought this Maglite 3 AA LED flashlight, and it is by far the best of all the LED flashlights that I have owned.

i needed a good little flashlight i could take with me everywhere. what's the point in buying a flashlight if you don't have it on you when you need it?

well it's smaller than i thought, which is good! the construction quality is great. it feels very well made and solid. there are 3 brightness settings, and the first one is plenty bright for any indoor use. the brightest setting is insane for such a small piece.

the only down sides if any (and they don't bother me enough to dampen my enthusiasm) is that the battery is what i'd consider non-standard... by that i mean, you're not going to find a CR123 battery in as many places as a AA or AAA.

the other thing is that... well because it's so small, i'm afraid i'm going to lose it! i debated whether to get a few cheaper lights in this size, knowing they get misplaced.

Overall a very good flashlight. I was searching for a tactical switch flashlight for some time, but this one seems to be one of the best ones. It produces a very powerful, bright, and even light. Looks to be well built, time will show. I can't comment on battery life because never owned flashlight which used CR123, but specs look good.
